Acne & Skin Care

Certain skin types are more prone to acne than others. If you have dry to normal skin, you're
less likely to see breakouts than someone with oily skin. However, PCOS (polycystic ovarian
syndrome) can cause acne breakouts regardless of your skin type and history. The excess
androgens that are produced in women with PCOS cause a hormonal imbalance, which affects
the body in many ways. This includes skin health and oil production. Skin care services are
often a cornerstone in PCOS symptom management to help women take control of their
complexion and manage breakouts. Dr. Lynsey Johnson, DNP, FNP-C at PCOS Sisters
Telehealth Clinic Wellness Center is a family nurse practitioner who helps Florida-based
patients manage their symptoms and treat the cause of their condition. Were proud to treat
patients in the following states and cities:

ACNE SYMPTOMS

Acne looks different for many people and its appearance can vary depending on severity. Types
of acne breakouts that women with PCOS may see include:
  • Whiteheads: Closed clogged pores that come to a head
  • Blackheads: Open clogged pores that resemble dark specks
  • Papules: Sensitive red bumps that are small in appearance
  • Nodules: Large, uncomfortable pimples under the skin
  • Pustules: Similar to pus-filled papules

Is there anything I can do to reduce acne breakouts?

There are many factors that contribute to acne production. These can range from the hormones your body produces to the foods you eat. Doing things like modifying your diet to reduce sweets, drinking more water, and staying consistent with your PCOS treatment and skin care routine can help bring balance to your skin and tame breakouts.

How is acne treated?

Acne is treated with skin care treatments and services, such as prescription medications and products. Since acne is different for every patient, you will receive a personalized treatment plan to improve your skin and address the root cause of your sudden acne breakouts.
