Frequently Asked Questions
why is this a fee-for-service (paid service?)
We are a private clinic, and our services are not covered by OHIP. Unfortunately, the healthcare system has not fully adapted to the evolving landscape of healthcare. While OHIP covers the cost of diagnostic and laboratory tests requested by nurse practitioners, they are unable to bill OHIP for their services.
My family/friend sees a Nurse Practitioner where it is Covered under OHIP. What is the difference?
Most Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in Ontario work as part of a team in settings like hospitals, community health centers, and family health teams, with their salaries funded by specific ministry allocations. NPs working independently do not receive payment from the province.
why is my ohip card required?
Your OHIP number is required for coverage of third-party diagnostics such as blood work and imaging, which are insured under OHIP.
